Research overview

Epidemiology is the study of the prevalence of infectious diseases in the community, either locally or global, and connecting this information with outcomes and treatment protocols.

The Marshall Centre has programs specialising in the epidemiology of Helicobacter pylori with Prof Barry Marshall and Neisseria meningitidis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and Group B Streptococcus with Dr Charlene Kahler and Dr Matt Payne. Dr Allison Imrie and Dr David Smith are members of the Centres for Research Excellence in Infectious Disease, an Australia-wide initiative examining infectious disease of public health importance, and their program focuses on viral epidemiology.
